Marvin Lore Smith, III, husband, father, friend, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas, after a brief illness on July 27, 2024, at the age of 71.

Born on August 28, 1952, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Marvin was the son of Marvin Lore Smith Jr. and Estee Smith. He spent most of his formative years in Odessa, Texas, where he graduated from Permian High School.

He went on to study psychology at North Texas University in Denton, where his sharp intellect, clever wit, and nonconformist spirit stood out-traits that would continue to define him throughout his life. It was there that he met his first wife, Cindy and, together, they returned to Odessa to raise their two children, Jessica Lee Smith (Bermes) and Marvin Lore Smith IV.

In 1987, Marvin made Austin his home and began a new chapter both personally and professionally. There, he met his second wife, Patricia (Pat), and built a successful career in debt collection and property management. He was admired for his business savvy, creative problem-solving, and entrepreneurial spirit, all of which contributed to his achievements in both fields.

Marvin felt immense pride in his family and took great joy in their achievements and well-being. He regularly encouraged his children and often his friends to set ambitious goals, wholeheartedly supporting their passions and pursuits with enthusiasm and genuine interest.

Marvin himself enjoyed many hobbies, including boating, reading, hunting, and travel. His humor, sensitivity, and generosity touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Smith; and his four children, Jessica Smith Bermes, and her husband, Justin (Judge), Marvin Smith, IV and wife, Stefanie, Ella Smith and Reed Smith; and grandchildren, Knox and Henry. He is also survived by his sister, Liz Shelton and husband Mike; brother, Stan Smith and wife Ann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) [www.focus.org], St. Jude's Children's Hospital [www.stjude.org], or the charity of your choice in Marvin's memory.

Marvin's legacy of love and generosity will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Pastor Donnie Williams will be officiating.
